Freight Handling Capabilities at Dragonfly Delivery
Understanding what a carrier can actually handle before you book a shipment prevents the most common and most costly delivery failures in commercial freight. Dragonfly Delivery operates a 20-foot tailgate-equipped box truck and coordinates additional capacity through partner carrier networks for freight that exceeds direct capacity. Here is a complete breakdown of handling capabilities and how they apply to different freight types.
Vehicle and Equipment
The primary Dragonfly Delivery vehicle is a 20-foot box truck with a hydraulic tailgate liftgate. The box provides approximately 1,000 cubic feet of enclosed cargo space. The tailgate supports loads up to approximately 2,000 pounds and lowers freight safely from truck bed height to ground level at locations without a loading dock. A manual pallet jack is carried on every job for moving palletized freight within the delivery location after offloading. The enclosed box protects freight from weather during transport.
Pallets and Skids
Standard pallets at 48 by 40 inches are handled as core freight. Oversized skids up to approximately 60 inches wide can be accommodated depending on total load configuration. Stacked pallets are handled when the freight is stable and the total height fits within the truck box. Unstable, improperly wrapped, or structurally compromised pallets may be flagged for remediation before loading — proper pallet preparation is a client responsibility and a delivery success factor.
Boxed Commercial Freight
Boxed goods including commercial fixtures, packaged equipment, appliances, and bagged or crated materials are handled across a wide size and weight range. Heavy individual items that require two-person handling or mechanical assistance should be identified at intake so appropriate arrangements are made before dispatch.
Contractor Materials and Fixtures
Bathroom vanities, bathtubs, shower enclosures, tile pallets, flooring skids, cabinetry, millwork, and similar contractor materials are handled as standard freight. These items frequently require tailgate service and careful handling due to finished surface sensitivity. Fragility and surface protection requirements should be noted at intake.
Tailgate and Non-Dock Delivery
Tailgate service is available at pickup, delivery, or both. All non-dock delivery locations should be identified at intake so tailgate use is confirmed before dispatch. Attempting to offload heavy palletized freight at a non-dock location without a tailgate is a safety and damage risk that Dragonfly Delivery does not take — proper equipment confirmation before dispatch is a standard operational requirement.
Freight That Requires Review or Partner Coordination
Freight exceeding the capacity of a single 20-foot box truck, freight requiring temperature control, hazardous materials, and freight requiring specialized handling equipment beyond a standard liftgate and pallet jack are reviewed individually. Some of these shipment types are coordinated through partner carrier networks. Some fall outside Dragonfly Delivery's direct service scope and will be clearly identified as such at the intake review stage rather than after a booking is confirmed.
Submitting a Freight Request
Include weight, dimensions, pallet count, fragility notes, access conditions, and any special handling requirements in your dispatch intake submission. The more complete the freight description, the faster and more accurate the quote. Call Dispatch for complex freight questions before submitting a formal request.
